Frequently Asked Questions
Pelvic health physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy that evaluates and treats conditions involving the pelvic floor muscles, core, bladder, bowel, and reproductive system. Treatment can help reduce pain, improve bladder and bowel control, strengthen the core, and restore confidence in everyday movement.
Pelvic health physical therapy can help treat a wide variety of conditions, including:
- Urinary leakage (incontinence)
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Pelvic pain
- Painful intercourse
- Constipation and bowel dysfunction
- Diastasis recti
- Pregnancy-related pain
- Postpartum recovery
Every treatment plan is personalized based on your symptoms, goals, and lifestyle.
In many cases, no referral is needed to begin pelvic health physical therapy in North Carolina through Direct Access. Some insurance plans may require a referral for coverage, so our team is happy to verify your benefits and explain your options before your first visit.
Your first visit begins with a conversation about your symptoms, medical history, and goals. Your physical therapist will then perform an evaluation that may include assessing your posture, breathing, core strength, movement patterns, and pelvic floor function.
Internal pelvic floor examinations are only performed when appropriate, are fully explained beforehand, and always require your consent. Your comfort and privacy are our top priorities.
Not at all. While pregnancy and postpartum recovery are common reasons people seek care, pelvic health physical therapy can benefit women at every stage of life, including adolescents, athletes, those experiencing menopause, and individuals dealing with bladder, bowel, pelvic pain, or core dysfunction unrelated to pregnancy.
